Life Transitions
Every individual encounters challenging situations in life. We may experience issues such as chronic health conditions, grief and loss, stress management, and barriers to personal growth. While we may have successfully managed many difficulties we have previously faced, dealing with chronic pain, fatigue, loss, a sense of inadequacy and worthlessness may leave us feeling disconnected, low and confused. Our lives can become stuck in a vicious cycle of distrust in ourselves and others, and feelings of fear and hopelessness about the future may arise.
By taking responsibility and accepting where we are at in life, we are committing to changing our present situation to achieve whatever matters to us. Seeking out additional support when we need it can be a sensible way forward.
Therapy can provide support, problem-solving skills, and enhanced coping strategies. We may need to develop skills for understanding and managing our emotions such as anger, grief and depression. We can reach a better understanding of ourselves, our goals and our values. We can change old behavioural patterns and develop new ones, and we can improve our self-acceptance and boost our self-confidence.
The help we can obtain from therapy depends on how well we use the process itself and on practising what we learn. A successful process can enable us to feel that we have greater control over our emotions and behaviours within our life, as well as feeling a deeper sense of compassion for ourselves and others.
